Ahmedabad: The Special Operations Group of the City Police has arrested Mohammad Asfaq alias Achhi Sheikh for recklessly firing a pistol shot in the air near Teen Darwaza to allegedly “test” the weapon. The 28-year-old accused, a resident of Vejalpur, was apprehended near Shastri Bridge.
The police recovered a Country-Made and a spent cartridge from Asfaq, who admitted to having a fascination with firearms. He revealed that he had purchased the weapon for ₹13,000 from a man named Azam in Madhya Pradesh about seven months ago. Police have launched a search for Azam to investigate the broader weapons supply network.
Asfaq told investigators that he fired the pistol near Teen Darwaza late at night solely to check if it worked. Asfaq is currently in SOG custody as investigations continue into his possible links with illegal arms trafficking. DeshGujarat
