Ahmedabad CP visits Chandola Talav; deportation process begins for 143 illegal Bangladeshis

Ahmedabad: In a coordinated effort to crack down on illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, police across Gujarat have detained over 1,000 suspected illegal Bangladeshi nationals. Amid the ongoing operation today, senior police officers, including Commissioner of Police G.S. Malik and DCP Crime Ajit Rajian, reached the Chandola Talav area, a hub for illegal immigrants, where a widespread search was initiated. The allegedly illegal houses of the Bangladeshi immigrants were found locked and deserted, and the authorities cut down the power supply in the area as part of the operation.

Speaking to the media, CP Malik said, “The illegal immigrants who were living here are nowhere to be found. We are here to inspect the situation and assess the extent of encroachments. Earlier, we had removed the illegal encroachments, yet they were rebuilt. The municipal corporation will take legal action against these encroachments. As of now, the immigrants have fled. We are also locating suspects in other areas, and action against the Bangladeshis is continuing on a priority basis.”

According to DCP Crime Ajit Rajian, Ahmedabad police have already initiated deportation proceedings for 143 Bangladeshi nationals, and further investigations are underway.

On the other hand, a team from the Intelligence Bureau (IB) West Bengal has arrived in Surat as part of the operation and is working with local IB teams to interrogate suspected individuals. In Surat, a search operation conducted in areas such as Varachha, Puna, and Saroli resulted in the identification of 49 suspicious individuals. After verifying their documents, those found with legitimate records were released. The operation across Surat continues with more suspects under scrutiny.

Meanwhile, Surat Rural Police have detained 245 suspected illegal Bangladeshi nationals, and out of the 60 who have been verified so far, all were confirmed to be Bangladeshi nationals. Investigations revealed that many had illegally entered India via the India-Bangladesh border and had been residing in rural areas of Gujarat. Twelve teams from eight police stations have been engaged in the ongoing crackdown against illegal immigrants. DeshGujarat
