Surat RTO Annual Revenue Crosses ₹447 Crore, ₹15.38 Crore from VIP Numbers

Surat: The Regional Transport Office (RTO) in the city has earned a revenue of ₹447 crore in the financial year 2024–25 from various sources, including lump-sum tax, vehicle tax, driving license fees, and VIP number (preferred numbers) charges. Notably, Surat residents spent a hefty ₹15.38 crore to secure fancy or preferred registration numbers for their vehicles.
The RTO collected the highest amount, ₹275 crore, through lump-sum vehicle tax. Vehicle owners in Surat are known to spend lavishly on lucky or special numbers like 1, 111, 9999, 999, 555, or numbers matching birthdays or anniversaries. Apart from fancy number fees, vehicle registration in total brought in ₹56.20 crore for the RTO.
Driving license revenue also saw a notable rise. With more people applying for fresh, international, or renewed licenses, the RTO earned ₹13.54 crore in this segment, up by ₹1.33 crore compared to ₹12.21 crore in the previous fiscal.
