Unseasonal rain, hailstorm likely in parts of Gujarat till May 8: IMD forecast

Ahmedabad: In what could be a relief from the scorching summer heat for the people of Gujarat, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread unseasonal rain and thunderstorms across the state till May 9. Triggered by a cyclonic circulation over southeast Rajasthan and a north-south trough extending to south Tamil Nadu, light to moderate showers are expected in multiple districts, with the intensity increasing through the week.

The IMD predicts isolated rainfall in parts of North Gujarat and Saurashtra-Kutch on May 3, gradually expanding to most regions, including Central and South Gujarat, by May 6. A significant drop of 2–4°C in maximum temperatures is also likely during the next five days across the region.

According to the forecast, some areas are likely to witness hailstorms on May 5 and 6, while heavy rain is expected in parts of North Gujarat, South Gujarat, and coastal Saurashtra on May 7 and 8.
