Gandhinagar: The list of the top 30 talukas that received the highest rainfall during the 24 hours ending at 6 am today (6 May) is presented below. Kapadvanj in Kheda had the highest rainfall of 1.57 inches, followed by Mansa, Sihor, Jotana, Vadodara city, Mahesana, Kadi, Bhavnagar, Dolvan, Nadiad, Khanpur, and Dasada. All these places had an average of around one inch or more of rainfall, as per the official data shared by the State Emergency Center in Gandhinagar. Though it’s the summer season in the month of May, Gujarat continues to remain cloudy today, as if it’s a monsoon period. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), here’s a forecast of more rainfall. Unseasonal rainfall was witnessed on 5th of May, and the night after, a dust storm occurred at around 6 pm. Suddenly the hot atmosphere of above 42 degrees on average across the state has gone colder as if it’s monsoon. Though the official figures don’t show the city of Ahmedabad in the top 30 list, the city had significant rainfall on the evening of May 5th with a thunderstorm. It was the first widespread rainfall of this year for the city.
During these unseasonal rains, accompanied by strong winds and dust storms, fourteen people lost their lives across the state. According to official figures from May 4th to 6th, 10 AM, Kheda reported the highest number of casualties, with two individuals killed by fallen trees and two others dying due to the collapse of a building and a makeshift roof. In Vadodara, three people lost their lives—two from electrocution and one after a hoarding fell on him. Ahmedabad, Aravalli, and Dahod each saw two fatalities. In Aravalli, both deaths were caused by lightning strikes, while in Dahod, victims died due to uprooted trees. In Ahmedabad, one person was struck by lightning, and another was killed by a collapsed hoarding. Additionally, a woman in Anand died after a wall collapsed on her. DeshGujarat
