May 07, 2025
Vadodara: A 23-year-old woman from Hathikhana’s Mahavat Faliya has filed a complaint against her husband under the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019, after he allegedly divorced her by giving triple talaq through a letter sent by post. The woman’s marital life, which began just two years ago, is now on the verge of collapse.
According to police, the woman married Ushama Arif Vohra, a resident of Tavakkal Nagar on Bhalej Road in Anand, in May 2023. She moved in with her in-laws after the wedding but fell ill six months later. Her brother-in-law dropped her at her parental home in Vadodara. Initially, her husband would visit to check on her, but over time, he stopped coming.
Later, her father-in-law contacted her father, suggesting they mutually agree to a separation. On April 22, 2025, the woman received a letter from her husband at her parental home, which stated the word “talaq” three times. Acting on her complaint, the Kumbharwada police have registered an FIR under the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019, and launched an investigation into the matter. DeshGujarat
