8 Gujarat airports to remain shut till May 15 morning as GoI extends NOTAM

Jamnagar: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) and relevant aviation authorities have issued a series of Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs), announcing the temporary closure of 32 airports across north and west India for all civil flight operations, effective until 05:29 hrs on 15th May. These include seven airports and one Air Force Station in Gujarat.

In Gujarat, the affected airports include Bhuj, Jamnagar, Kandla, Keshod, Mundra (Adani), Naliya (Air Force Station), Porbandar, and Rajkot (Hirasar). Except for Naliya, all these airports were initially brought under the NOTAM on Thursday, with restrictions set to last until May 9. However, in light of evolving threats, the AAI has extended the suspension of civil aviation activities. Airlines have issued travel advisories, confirming flight cancellations from these airports until the morning of May 15, and urging passengers to verify flight status before heading to the airport.

Air India in a tweet said, “Following a notification from aviation authorities on continued closure of multiple airports in India, Air India flights to and from the following stations – Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Bhuj, Jamnagar and Rajkot – are being cancelled till 0529 hrs IST on 15 May, pending further updates. Customers holding valid tickets for travel during this period will be offered a one-time waiver on rescheduling charges or a full refund for cancellations.”

While IndiGo stated, “In accordance with the latest directives from the relevant authorities, please be advised that all flights to and from the following destinations will remain cancelled until 0529 hours on 15th May 2025 due to temporary airport closures: Srinagar, Jammu, Amritsar, Leh, Chandigarh, Dharamshala, Bikaner, Rajkot, Jodhpur, and Kishangarh. These precautionary measures have been instituted with your safety and security as our highest priority. We remain fully committed to providing you with unwavering support while navigating this situation together.”

SpiceJet also issued a travel update saying, “Due to the ongoing situation, our flights to and from Leh (IXL), Srinagar (SXR), Jammu (IXJ), Dharamshala (DHM), Kandla (IXY), Amritsar (ATQ), and Porbandar (PBD) are cancelled till 15th May’25 up to 0529 hrs. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may cause to our valued passengers and appreciate your understanding.”

The move comes after a series of aerial intrusion attempts from across the border by Pakistan, prompting proactive measures to ensure the safety of civil airspace. Authorities may further revise the NOTAM based on real-time developments. DeshGujarat
