Bhuj: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is likely to visit Gujarat on May 16 and 17. During this visit, he is expected to inspect the Bhuj airbase in Kutch on Friday, May 16, and later review security arrangements along the India-Pakistan border. He is likely to be accompanied by senior officials, including the head of the Western Air Command.
The visit aims to assess the Indian Armed Forces’ operational readiness in the region and evaluate the security measures implemented after Pakistan’s recent failed attempts to breach Indian airspace using drones.
Recently, after India carried out Operation Sindoor against terror camps in Pakistan, the neighbouring country attempted to target the Bhuj airbase with drone incursions. These attempts were effectively intercepted by India’s air defence systems. Following multiple failed intrusions from the hostile nation, a ceasefire was agreed upon between India and Pakistan.
The Bhuj Rudra Mata Air Force Station, a key facility under the South Western Air Command, shares its runway with the civilian airport and plays a strategic role in air defence and surveillance due to its proximity to the border. The Defence Minister is expected to inspect this facility during his visit.
Earlier this week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Adampur Air Base in Punjab, where he was briefed by senior Air Force officers and interacted with personnel involved in recent operations. The Adampur base, part of the Western Air Command led by Air Marshal Jeetendra Chaudhry, played a significant role in Operation Sindoor and other missions. DeshGujarat
