Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project: 300 km Viaduct Work Complete

New Delhi: Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Tuesday that the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) project has reached an important milestone with 300 km of viaduct work completed. He also shared a video of the project on the social media platform X.

“300 km viaduct completed — Bullet Train Project,” he tweeted along with the video footage.

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor is largely being constructed on viaducts to eliminate level crossings, enhance speed, and reduce land acquisition challenges. These elevated tracks, made from concrete pillars and girders, keep the rail line above ground level.

The project also completed the breakthrough of a 350-metre mountain tunnel in Valsad and constructed the first of 28 planned steel bridges — a 70-metre span in Surat earlier.

The high-speed rail corridor’s foundation stone was laid on September 14, 2017, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. NHSRCL, formed in February 2016 as a Special Purpose Vehicle under the Ministry of Railways, is executing the project with equity from the central government and the state governments of Gujarat and Maharashtra.

Once operational, the bullet train will transform travel between Mumbai and Ahmedabad by significantly reducing journey time and introducing Japan’s advanced Shinkansen technology to India. DeshGujarat
