PM Modi to dedicate Udaipur–Himmatnagar railway line electrification

Gandhinagar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate several railway line electrification projects to the nation on May 22 at a programme in Rajasthan. This includes the 210 km Udaipur–Himmatnagar railway line.

The official dedication of the electrification project on this railway line comes in the backdrop of Gujarat achieving 100 percent electrification of all broad gauge railway lines — a milestone reached earlier this year.

Gujarat, which falls under the Western Railway division, had just 785 km of electrified broad gauge lines in 2014. Today, its entire railway network spanning 4,027 km is fully electrified. The electrification of the Udaipur–Himmatnagar route is a crucial link, enhancing connectivity between southern Rajasthan and northern Gujarat while reducing reliance on diesel locomotives. With electrification complete, several high-speed trains like the Vande Bharat can now operate between Gujarat and the popular tourist destination of Udaipur.

Gujarat is among 25 Indian states with full railway electrification, leaving only a few — Rajasthan, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Goa, and Assam — with minor sections pending. The Indian Railways aims to complete the remaining 811 km of electrification within the next couple of years. DeshGujarat
