Bangladeshi National Nabbed at Ahmedabad Airport with Fake Indian Passport
May 29, 2025
Ahmedabad: A Bangladeshi national was detained at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport in Ahmedabad on Tuesday for allegedly securing an Indian passport using fake documents.
The incident came to light on May 22 during immigration checks for an IndiGo flight to Kuwait, when an immigration officer grew suspicious of passenger Biplob Halder’s documents. Though carrying an Indian passport with a West Bengal address, Halder admitted he was Bangladeshi and presented supporting documents, including his birth certificate from Dhaka and his parents’ Bangladeshi IDs.
Further investigation revealed that Halder had moved to India with his parents to stay with relatives in West Bengal. Later, with the help of a local agent and using fake affidavits and declarations, he secured a birth certificate from Kalyani Municipality. He then obtained an Aadhaar card, voter ID, PAN card, and an Indian passport.
In 2018, Halder used these documents to travel to Kuwait, where he lived for six years. He returned to India in February 2025 and later visited Bangladesh, where he got married. On attempting to travel back to Kuwait, he was caught at the Ahmedabad airport.
Authorities have seized his Indian passport, boarding pass, Bangladeshi identity documents, and birth certificate. The airport police have filed a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Passport Act, and an investigation is underway. DeshGujarat
