Up to 2.26 Inches of Rainfall in Ahmedabad City; Know Area-Wise Data

Ahmedabad: The city of Ahmedabad received moderate to heavy rainfall, up to 2.26 inches in some areas, on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday. The rainfall was fast and continuous, accompanied by strong winds for a while and a roaring sky due to lightning.

According to rainfall figures within the shared by theAmdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) for the 24-hour period ending at 6 am Thursday, the highest rainfall was recorded in the Dudheshwar area of the Central Zone and in Ranip of the West Zone, both witnessing over 2 inches of rain. Roads in these areas were naturally waterlogged causing trouble for commuters in the morning office hours.

Looking at the zone-wise figures, the West Zone, which comprises Tagore Control, Usmanpura, Chandkheda, Vasna, and Ranip , along with the Central Zone, which includes the Municipal Corporation headquarters and Dudheshwar, witnessed the highest rainfall, with an average of 1.6 inches during the night.

Even though the Sabarmati riverfront is currently empty for cleaning or river and repair work at the Vasna Barrage, three gates of the barrage were opened by 0.5 feet to release excess rainwater.

The IMD has not officially announced the onset of the monsoon yet, and this spell is considered part of pre-monsoon activity. In its Wednesday bulletin, the IMD had predicted scattered rainfall across parts of the state, including heavy rain at some locations. DeshGujarat
