Gujarat sizzles under heat as it awaits monsoon onset; maximum temperature above 40°C in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: The city continued to sizzle on Sunday with a maximum temperature of 40.4°C, marginally below normal by 0.5 degrees, while the minimum settled at 28.9°C, slightly above normal. This was the third consecutive day that the mercury stayed above 40°C in Ahmedabad.
With the southwest monsoon not advancing for over a week, temperatures remained high across Gujarat. Kandla recorded the state’s highest maximum temperature at 41°C, followed by 40.7°C in Deesa, 40.4°C in Ahmedabad, and 40.3°C in Surendranagar.
In Rajkot, the temperature touched a high of 39.5°C, dipping 0.7 degrees below normal, while the minimum dropped to 26.3°C, which was 0.5 degrees lower than average.
Gandhinagar recorded a maximum of 40°C (1 degree below normal) and a minimum of 28.6°C, slightly under the seasonal average.
In contrast, coastal areas of Gujarat saw more moderate temperatures. Surat recorded a maximum of 35.2°C and a minimum of 28.8°C, both slightly above normal. In Dwarka, Okha, and Porbandar, maximum temperatures ranged between 33°C and 36°C.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Ahmedabad is expected to witness a maximum temperature of around 41°C on Monday under clear skies. The northern boundary of the southwest monsoon remained stationary on Sunday as well, stretching through Mumbai and Ahilyanagar in Maharashtra and Puri in Odisha.
