Part of Crashed Air India Aircraft Lands on BJ Medical College Hostel, Shows Visuals

Ahmedabad: In a tragic development, a portion of the Air India aircraft that crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad airport on Thursday landed atop a hostel building for medical interns, visuals from the site have revealed.
A video circulating on the internet shows a large crowd gathered near the crash site, with part of the aircraft, including a wheel, resting on the roof of the intern doctors’ hostel at BJ Medical College.
According to a doctor currently present at Civil Hospital, the canteen area of the hospital was also impacted. At least 30 to 50 students and staff members were reportedly present in the vicinity at the time of the crash. The entire area has been sealed off, and even medical personnel are not being allowed access to that section.

The ill-fated flight, Air India AI171, was a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner bound for London Gatwick. It crashed into the Meghani Nagar residential area within five minutes of taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport around 1:38 pm.
Air India confirmed that the aircraft had 242 people on board, including 169 Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese nationals, and one Canadian. The airline added that injured passengers are being transported to nearby hospitals and that it is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
