Ahmedabad: Among the 241 people who died in the crash of Air India flight AI171 in the Meghaninagar area shortly after takeoff on Thursday were several business leaders and their families.
Three members of the Nanda family — Pramukh Pravesh Nanda, founder of the Cargo Motors Group, his wife Neha Pramukh Nanda, and their younger son Prayash Pramukh Nanda — lost their lives in the crash of the London-bound flight.
The family was traveling to London to attend the convocation ceremony of their elder son, Prayas, scheduled for June 16. Pramukh Pravesh Nanda was a prominent figure in Gujarat’s automobile and transport industries and was widely recognized in the state’s business community.
Founded in 1959, Cargo Motors has established itself as a leader in the automobile and transport sectors. The company operates more than 70 sales outlets and 30 service workshops across Delhi, Gujarat, Punjab, and Rajasthan.
Another notable businessman, Subhashchandra Amin, founder of Lubi Pumps, was also on the ill-fated flight, accompanied by a female family member identified as A. Amin. While sources close to the company confirmed their presence on board, further details were not disclosed, as the identities will only be confirmed after DNA test analysis.
Lubi Pumps, a well-established brand, has since diversified into various sectors including valves, solar energy, electric vehicle solutions, and fire and electrical panel manufacturing. DeshGujarat
