Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Ground in Rajkot set for ₹5.71 crore revamp
June 20, 2025
Rajkot: In a move to enhance utility and revive local sports, the city civic body has decided to redevelop the Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Ground, located at the Race Course. To facilitate this, the tender process has been initiated for the renovation of the stadium at an estimated cost of ₹5.71 crore.
Once a prominent venue for national and international matches, the ground’s usage declined after the Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) built a new stadium at Khandheri. As part of the new year’s budget, the decision was taken to lease out the stadium for sports events and public programmes and to undertake its renovation. According to the construction department, the stadium currently has a three-storey pavilion that is several years old and now due for replacement.
The existing pavilion will be demolished and replaced with a new four-storey structure equipped with modern amenities. This redevelopment, estimated at ₹4.83 crore, will include player changing rooms, staff rooms, a gymnasium, and other essential facilities. The total estimated cost of the project stands at ₹5.71 crore.
The renovation is expected to create a nurturing environment for budding cricketers, with infrastructure that supports local tournaments. Alongside the pavilion revamp, improvements will also be made to the existing spectator seating arrangements.
Officials added that the tender process for the pavilion renovation has begun. Once bids are opened, the proposal will be submitted for approval. The renovation includes civil construction work worth ₹3.88 crore, plumbing work worth ₹9.51 lakh, fire safety installations worth ₹20.49 lakh, and new lighting and electrical work estimated at ₹56.14 lakh.
