IMD issues Red Alert for extremely heavy rainfall in 8 districts of Gujarat including Surat

Surat: Many districts of Gujarat have been hit with severe, incessant rains since the start of the week, and this spell of heavy rain is likely to continue further in the coming days, according to the prediction by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The Ahmedabad office of the central weather agency has issued a Red Alert for up to extremely heavy rainfall in eight districts of Gujarat for the next 24 hours.

As per the IMD bulletin, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Navsari, and Valsad, along with the Union Territory of Daman and Dadra & Nagar Haveli, are very likely to be lashed by heavy to very heavy rain at a few places with isolated extremely heavy falls till tomorrow morning 8:30 am.

During the same period, other districts — namely Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Aravalli, Kheda, Anand, Panchmahal, Chhota Udepur, Dang, Tapi, Amreli, and Bhavnagar — have been placed on Orange Alert, as they may also witness very heavy rainfall.

The forecast implies that most places in Gujarat are likely to get heavy rain, except for a few districts — Porbandar, Dwarka, Jamnagar, Morbi, and Kutch — where only light rain is forecast today.
