GCAS portal delays: Over 50% seats vacant in VNSGU affiliated colleges

Surat: The academic year 2025–26 begins today in colleges affiliated with Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU), yet 51 percent of seats remain vacant. The reason is reportedly the slow admission process on the GCAS (Gujarat Common Admission Service) portal implemented by the Gujarat government.

Despite six rounds of the online admission process, only half the seats have been filled. Currently, thousands of students with merit scores between 85 and 90 percent are still waiting for admission. In contrast, admissions in prestigious colleges were completed within the first two rounds last year.

Not just the students, the inefficiency and sluggishness of the GCAS portal have caused growing frustration among college administrators. Students and parents are frequently calling the helpline to inquire when admissions will be finalized. In response, college authorities are considering submitting a proposal to the university to allow offline admissions in the near future.

So far, only 41,827 students have been admitted to VNSGU,  less than half of its total intake capacity. With the admission process expected to continue into July, the start of the first-year academic session may face delays. DeshGujarat
