Ahmedabad: The Gaikwad Haveli police have filed a case against four individuals posing as journalists for allegedly extorting money from the family of a minor boy by uploading a video of his altercation with another boy on CG Road.
The accused individuals, Ojef Tirmizi, Abeda Pathan, Azim Khan, and Sabir Sheikh uploaded the video on social media and demanded ₹10,000 from the boy in exchange for deleting it. Although the family paid ₹5,000, the video remained online. When they requested its removal again, the accused allegedly threatened to make it viral and further defame the boy.
The minor, a Class 11 student from Astodia studying in Paldi, had a brief scuffle with a friend three months ago over a financial disagreement, which was later resolved. However, Ojef Tirmizi, posing as a journalist, posted the clip on Instagram and began demanding money. The boy recorded their conversation, which was later submitted as evidence.
It is learnt that Tirmizi has a record of sharing sensational social media content ranging from brawls and illegal constructions to real estate disputes as a tactic to extort money. He has previously been arrested for similar offences. DeshGujarat
