CBI Court Ahmedabad sentences ex-Western Railway official to 3 years in jail

Ahmedabad: The Special Judge for CBI cases in Ahmedabad on Monday sentenced Harish Kishore Gupta, who formerly served as Divisional Engineer (C) at the Bhavnagar DRM Office of Western Railway, to three years of rigorous imprisonment and fined him Rs 1 lakh for accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000, according to a statement by the agency.
The case dates back to July 15, 2010, when the CBI booked Gupta on charges of soliciting and receiving an illegal payment of Rs 5,000 from a railway contractor, the complainant, in exchange for issuing a work order worth Rs 19,91,432 and extending the contract completion deadline.
Gupta was arrested the following day, July 16, and searches were conducted at his home and office. The CBI statement further noted that after the investigation, a chargesheet was filed on June 29, 2011, accusing him of demanding and accepting illegal gratification as well as committing criminal misconduct as a public servant.
