Bhavnagar: The Ministry of Railways is set to approve a major infrastructure project for Western Railway. As per the Divisional Railway Manager, Bhavnagar, the Ministry is set to approve the construction of an Integrated Coaching Depot (ICD) for Vande Bharat trains at Ranavav in Gujarat. The facility is expected to be built at an estimated cost of ₹135.58 crore.

This modern depot will cater to the maintenance needs of Vande Bharat trains, boosting operational efficiency and capacity. The move forms a key part of Indian Railways’ broader strategy to upgrade and expand infrastructure for maintaining Vande Bharat and other trains.

Scope of Work:

• Construction of two 650-meter-long pit lines with covered sheds.

• A 650-meter-long washing line.

• A 222m x 50m shed-equipped sick line for coach repairs.

• A 650-meter stabling line with two 15-ton EOT cranes.

• A 200 sq. meter administrative building with electrical and lighting facilities.

• Associated electrical (TRD), signalling and telecom (S&T) works.

• All other ancillary works required for the development of this modern maintenance ecosystem.

Key Objectives and Benefits:

• Meet growing passenger demand by improving train maintenance capabilities and handling increasing coach traffic.

• Decongest existing maintenance load by shifting operations from Porbandar to Ranavav, enhancing efficiency and overall capacity.

• Develop a modern, integrated facility suitable for various types of rolling stock, including LHB coaches and Vande Bharat trainsets.

• Utilize the ample land available at Ranavav to enable large-scale infrastructure development.

The upcoming facility is expected to significantly strengthen the maintenance ecosystem for Vande Bharat trains and reinforce railway infrastructure in Gujarat. It also highlights Indian Railways’ continued commitment to modernization and providing world-class services to passengers.
