Surat: Under the state government’s campaign to enforce fire safety regulations in schools, the District Primary Education Officer of Surat has revoked the recognition of three schools that failed to obtain the mandatory Fire NOC. The affected schools include Welfare Primary School in Mangrol, Palod Sanskar Vidyalaya, and Sanskar Vidyalaya in Palsana.

Additionally, the district education department has ordered 17 other schools to suspend offline classes. These schools had continued to operate without securing the required Fire NOC. Earlier in May, notices and fines were issued to these institutions, but as they failed to comply, strict action was taken.

The education department clarified that no school is permitted to conduct offline classes without obtaining the mandatory fire safety certificate. Following incidents like the Takshashila fire tragedy in Surat and the TRP game tragedy in Rajkot, the state government has made it compulsory for all schools to obtain fire safety certification.

Arun Agrawal, District Primary Education Officer, stated that schools ignoring government orders faced strict action in the form of revocation of recognition. A committee was formed to investigate, and based on its findings and report, the recognition of these schools has been canceled.
