Ahmedabad: Screenshots believed to show Instagram conversations between the accused in the murder of Class 10 student Nayan Satani and one of his friends have surfaced on social media, providing insight into what happened after the crime.
The chats allegedly reveal that the teen suspect admitted to stabbing Nayan. When asked by his friend whether he had used a knife, the accused reportedly replied, “Haan to” (yes, so), specifically mentioning Nayan by name. In another exchange, the accused wrote, “Are meko bolra tha ki kon hain kya karlega tu” (he was saying, ‘Who are you, what will you do?’). The friend, who responded with abuse, also told the accused he should not have attacked Nayan with a knife, saying, “Mar nahi dalna tha” (you should not have killed him).
Six to seven screenshots of these conversations are widely circulating online. In them, the friend is seen advising the accused to delete their chat and go into hiding after the accused said, “Jo hua so hua” (whatever has happened, has happened). Police have stated that they are examining the authenticity of these viral chats as part of their investigation.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, when Nayan, a Class 10 student at a Seventh-Day Adventist school in Ahmedabad, was allegedly stabbed by his classmate. Nayan later succumbed to his injuries that night. According to the viral chats, the accused—identified as Musef—was detained shortly after the incident.
The murder triggered protests on Wednesday as hundreds of parents, locals, and members of the Sindhi community stormed the school, demanding strict action. Demonstrators also staged a sit-in, blocked traffic, and raised slogans against the police and school authorities.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Sharad Singhal confirmed that the case has been transferred to the crime branch following demands from protesters. Police are also investigating parents’ allegations that others assisted in the murder and that school authorities attempted to destroy evidence by calling a water tanker to wash away bloodstains. “If others are found to be involved, strict action will be taken,” Singhal assured.
