Vadodara police takes out public parade of accused who threw eggs on Ganesh idol

Vadodara: The city police today carried out a public parade of two accused who were arrested for allegedly hurling eggs at Ganpati idols in the Panigate area early on Monday morning. The police had arrested three individuals on Tuesday, including a minor in conflict with the law.

During the parade, the two accused—Sufiyan alias Gama Salimbhai Mansuri (20) and Shahnawaz alias Badbad Mohammad Irshad Qureshi (29)—could be seen with folded hands, struggling to walk as they were brought to the incident spot for reconstruction of the crime.

Tension had gripped the Panigate area on Monday night after eggs were thrown at a Lord Ganesha idol during a procession carried out by Nirmal Park Yuvak Mandal near Madar Market. Following the incident, the police rounded up over eight people on Tuesday and later arrested these three individuals, with the investigation aided by human intelligence and CCTV footage.

Hindu organisations demanded strict action against the accused, stating that unless an example is made, such misdeeds may continue in the future. VMC Dandak Shailesh Patil called the incident an “act of terrorism” and an attempt to disturb peace. He added that such acts aim to disrupt Vadodara’s culture and harmony, but the city’s residents will not allow these elements to succeed.
