Ahmedabad DEO directs Seventh Day School to submit 16 key documents

Ahmedabad: The District Education Officer (DEO) has issued a final notice to the management and principal of Seventh Day Adventist Higher Secondary School in the city, where a Class 10 student was allegedly stabbed to death by a fellow student. The notice directs the school to submit certified copies of key documents by Friday, warning that failure to do so will invite “unilateral action” under existing rules.

On Thursday, several parents staged a protest outside the DEO office and submitted a memorandum demanding the cancellation of the school’s No Objection Certificate (NoC) as well as its lease with the city civic body. Despite multiple reminders, the school has not provided any response, compelling the DEO to send a fifth notice.

In the notice, Ahmedabad (city) DEO Rohit Chaudhary observed that the school had not submitted any explanation or evidence so far, which he described as “inappropriate and not in accordance with the rules.” He cautioned that if the requested documents are not provided within the stipulated time, the department will proceed with unilateral action.

Documents sought by the DEO:

  • Certified copies of school approval certificates from Class 1 to 12

  • Certified copies of class promotion records

  • NoC from the state Education Department for ICSE affiliation

  • School Building Usage Permission (BUP)
