Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project: NHSRCL shares progress update

Surat: The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project continues to make steady progress with major milestones achieved across viaduct, bridges, tunnels, and station works. The 508-km high-speed rail corridor, spanning 352 km in Gujarat and Dadra & Nagar Haveli and 156 km in Maharashtra, will feature 12 thematically designed stations including Sabarmati, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Vapi, Thane, and Mumbai.

According to the latest update shared by the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), construction of 317 km of viaduct has been completed so far, along with 396 piers and 407 pier foundations. Girder casting for 337 km is also finished. Seventeen river bridges, including those on the Par, Purna, Ambika, Kim, Daman Ganga, and Vishwamitri rivers, have been completed. In addition, eight steel bridges, a 100-metre span of a 2×100 m long steel bridge, and five PSC bridges are ready.

Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project Status

Noise barrier installation is progressing in Gujarat, with 3.9 lakh barriers already installed along a 195 km stretch. Track bed construction has reached 198 km, and welding of 200-metre-long rail panels is underway. Overhead equipment installation has advanced with more than 1,600 OHE masts in place between Surat and Bilimora.

In Maharashtra, work on the 21 km tunnel between BKC and Shilphata is in progress. Approximately 4.5 km of tunnel heading has been achieved cumulatively from Shilphata and two concurrent faces from the ADIT portal through the New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM).

Excavation of seven mountain tunnels in Palghar district has progressed by 2 km out of the total 6 km. Structural works for all eight stations in Gujarat are complete, with interior finishing ongoing.
