Shastri Bridge Lane in Ahmedabad to Close for 10 Days in September for Inspection
August 31, 2025
Ahmedabad 31 August: A key lane on the old Shastri Bridge, connecting Pirana Junction to Vishala Junction, will be completely closed to all traffic for ten days in September to allow for a detailed structural inspection.
The closure will affect the left-side bridge lane heading from Pirana Junction towards Vishala Junction. It will be in effect daily from September 1, 2025, to September 10, 2025, between 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM. The closure is necessary to accommodate heavy machinery required by the Executive Engineer of the National Highway Division to conduct a thorough inspection of the bridge’s condition.
Background on Bridge Condition
This temporary full closure follows an earlier restriction put in place due to the deteriorating condition of several bearings and pedestals on the old bridge. A notification issued on August 8, 2025, had already banned all heavy and medium-sized goods and passenger vehicles from using this lane. That ban is currently in effect and will continue until February 8, 2026.
Traffic Diversion Plan
During the 10-day inspection period, all traffic heading from Pirana Junction to Vishala Junction will be diverted onto the adjacent, parallel bridge. This is the bridge that normally carries traffic from Vishala Junction to Pirana Junction. Commuters are advised to plan their travel accordingly to avoid delays.
The press note, issued by N.N. Chaudhari, Joint Commissioner of Police for Traffic, confirms that citizens have been informed of these necessary arrangements. DeshGujarat
