AMC probe reveals major irregularities at Seventh Day School

Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has uncovered major irregularities in the lease agreement of Seventh Day Adventist Higher Secondary School in Khokhra. The school allegedly violated the terms of its lease with AMC. It has come to light that instead of being registered under an education trust, the property is in the name of a company. Additionally, the school carried out unauthorized construction without plan approval and paid the impact fee directly.

Lease irregularities highlighted

The lease for the school was signed with a registered company instead of an education trust, despite a 2001–02 AMC Standing Committee resolution that clearly stated plots reserved under TP schemes for schools should be allotted only to registered educational trusts. The MOU was signed with India Financial Association of Seventh Day Adventist, which is a company, not a trust.

According to the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, the company is a limited entity with a guarantee and was incorporated in 1975, with its registered office in Tamil Nadu.

Unauthorized construction and impact fee paid

AMC officials confirmed that the school carried out illegal construction without plan approval. The impact fee for the construction was approved only in February 2024, after the unauthorized work had been completed. Officials have directed AMC’s Estate Department to take all necessary legal action against the school for violating the lease agreement.

The school came into the limelight after an incident on August 19, when a class 10 student was attacked by another student with a knife. The injured student died the following day at a Maninagar hospital. DeshGujarat
