‘Stone pelting’ near Ganpati pandal in Vadodara’s Tarsali area; police conducts combing

Vadodara witnessed a commotion last night at a Ganpati pandal in Diwalipura slum quarters, Tarsali, during the Chappanbhog ceremony. Locals rushed to the site after hearing unusual sounds from a vehicle parked near the pandal. According to residents, stones were reportedly thrown from the vehicle.

Upon receiving information about the incident, senior police officials, including the DCP, rushed to the spot and conducted combing operations late at night. Preliminary checks did not reveal any conclusive evidence. Considering the seriousness of the situation, the police have formed multiple teams to carry out a thorough investigation.

Residents said the Chappanbhog ceremony had concluded when stones were allegedly thrown near an Activa parked close to the pandal. This prompted locals to gather at the site, where additional stones were reportedly hurled, leading to immediate police intervention.

Second such incident in Vadodara

Local corporator Alpesh Limbachiya said, “The Chappanbhog ceremony was conducted in Tarsali’s Diwalipura slum quarters. After Ganesh Aarti, antisocial elements threw six to eight stones, disturbing the peace. This is the second such incident in Vadodara; a similar act occurred five days ago during Ganesh Agman when eggs were thrown. The same disruption was attempted in Tarsali now.”

Police comb the area

DCP Abhishek Gupta said, “The Ganpati pandal is located near a narrow lane behind an artificial lake in Tarsali. Reports came in that something had fallen beside the pandal, creating a noise. This prompted the police to immediately reach the spot. Separate teams from the LCB and D-staff have been formed to investigate what might have been thrown and who could have thrown it. Combing operations by these teams are currently ongoing.”

DCP Gupta added, “We have checked all terraces and found nothing suspicious. CCTV footage is under review. The pandal has a protective structure and a long overhead shed, which prevented any damage. The noise that was heard seemed to come from an Activa parked nearby, which drew the attention of the police. So far, there is no indication that any stone or object hit anyone. We are still investigating. We have also spoken to the organisers and will question everyone present during the offering. If anyone was hit, we will pursue the matter further.” DeshGujarat
