Gujarat cuts down on unit tests to ease student workload
September 04, 2025
Ahmedabad: The Gujarat education department has decided to reduce the number of unit tests for students across all classes from this academic year to ease their academic burden. For Classes 3 to 8, trimester exams will replace the earlier system of multiple unit tests.
For Classes 9 to 12, only one unit test per semester will be held, with each carrying 25 marks, making a total of 50 marks annually. The first test is scheduled between September 11 and 20, covering the syllabus taught until August 31, while the second will be conducted between December 22 and 31, based on lessons completed until December 15. Schools may set their own timetables within these windows. The tests will include objective, short-answer, and descriptive questions to assess different skills. Officials said the new system is designed to reduce stress while ensuring uniform and quality assessment. DeshGujarat
