Bhavnagar: Bhavnagar Municipal Corporation on Friday carried out a demolition drive, removing an illegal mosque structure built near Bharatnagar Meman Colony after a long-standing court dispute.

The structure, constructed around 20–25 years ago, had been declared unauthorized by the Gujarat Housing Board as it was built on Housing Board land. Multiple petitions had been filed to save the mosque from demolition, but the Gujarat High Court dismissed the pleas and ordered its removal. Two separate cases were heard in the court regarding this issue, and ultimately, the court upheld the Housing Board’s stand.

Following the verdict, a joint operation involving police and corporation officials was conducted with heavy deployment of personnel. The demolition cleared nearly 2,000 square feet of encroached land. On the site, around 100 square meters of area was opened for public use immediately after the removal.

Officials confirmed that a portion of the illegal structure was still left and would also be demolished soon. The action has brought closure to a long-pending dispute over unauthorized religious construction on government land. DeshGujarat
