Gandhinagar: A significant change has been introduced in the ranking system of police stations in Gujarat. Earlier, rankings were based solely on crime statistics, but now, following the directive of DGP Vikas Sahay, police stations will also be evaluated on citizen-centric performance and services. This reform was implemented keeping in mind the key recommendations of the DG-IG Conference 2024.

The initiative aims to encourage citizen-focused policing across the state, the home department said in a statement. The updated ranking system emphasizes public-friendly measures such as prompt grievance redressal, visits to senior citizens by SHE teams, and community policing programs like ‘Teen Vaat Tamari, Teen Vaat Amari’ and ‘Tera Tujko Arpan’.

The evaluation covers around 40 parameters, including cleanliness, hygienic toilets for women, drinking water facilities, citizen waiting areas, CCTV coverage, fire safety equipment, and tree plantation drives. Even the regular use of government-issued phone numbers by police personnel will be monitored.

Police stations in districts and cities will be assessed twice a year, with the top three stations receiving certificates of appreciation from the state police chief. “We hope this will foster healthy competition and encourage police stations to improve services that matter most to citizens,” the statement added.
