Kandla Port Poised for Expansion Beyond Gujarat: Report

Kandla: Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), which manages Kandla Port, is set to become the first major port authority in the country to expand its operations beyond its home State of Gujarat, a news report said.

According to The Hindu BusinessLine, the Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) is currently engaged in high-level negotiations to take over and operate strategic terminals in Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Karnataka. An official stated that the authority aims to expand its presence by absorbing terminals in these States.

Notably, Deendayal Port handled more than 150 million tonnes of cargo last year, ranking as the country’s second-largest port by volume.

As per the report, the official clarified that the expansion would not only increase cargo throughput but also allow DPA to replicate best practices and help ease congestion at ports.

In addition to its expansion plans, DPA is developing a deep-draft multi-cargo berth capable of handling 18 million tonnes of dry bulk, project cargo, and break-bulk cargo annually. It is also constructing a 2.3 million TEUs container berth under the PPP mode, which is expected to be commissioned by September 2027. DeshGujarat
