Locals allege violation of Disturbed Areas Act in property deals in Amreli

Amreli: Residents of several localities in Amreli city have raised concerns over alleged violations of the Disturbed Areas Act, claiming that property transactions are continuing despite restrictions being in place since 2022. Locals from Bhatrawadi, Gajerapara, Shaktipara, and Sardar Chowk held a meeting and a press conference on Monday to highlight their grievances.

The residents alleged that houses are still being sold “under the table” even though the Act was meant to regulate transactions and prevent unlawful sales. They said repeated written representations to the authorities had gone unanswered, prompting them to go public. The residents warned that if no action is taken, they will escalate the matter to the Home Minister and the Chief Minister.

Meanwhile, the District Registrar’s office acknowledged that registrations from restricted areas are being processed but clarified that permissions are granted only after approval from the Prant Officer (Sub-Divisional Magistrate). According to officials, applications are examined based on police and Mamlatdar reports, along with “No Objection Certificates” from neighboring residents, before certificates are issued.

However, the situation highlights a sharp contrast between local residents’ grievances and officials’ statements. While residents argue that ongoing property deals undermine the purpose of the Disturbed Areas Act, authorities maintain that due process is being followed. DeshGujarat
