Surat police nabs 2 for spreading fake video about Ghogha-Hazira Ro-Ro ferry

Surat: The Surat Cyber Crime Cell today arrested two individuals for circulating a misleading video on social media aimed at tarnishing the Ghogha-Hazira Ro-Ro ferry service. The accused shared a foreign Ro-Ro ferry video, falsely claiming it was from the Ghogha-Hazira route, with captions suggesting that the service “could claim many lives,” causing unnecessary public panic.

The accused have been identified as Maheshbhai Bhavanbhai Parmar, resident of Anida village, Wadhwan Taluka, Surendranagar district, and Sandeepbhai Becharbhai Dholiya, resident of House No. 16, Natwarnagar, Nani Varachha, Surat. They have been booked under Section 353(1)(b) of the Indian Penal Code.

Police said both individuals posted the misleading content on their social media accounts—Instagram ID: Parmar45Mahesh and Facebook ID: Sandeep Dholiya—intending to create fear and discomfort among ferry passengers.

Following a complaint, the Cyber Crime Cell launched an investigation and, based on technical analysis, traced and apprehended the suspects. Preliminary inquiries revealed that the hoax was created as a prank aimed at gaining viral attention on social media. Legal proceedings have been initiated against both individuals. DeshGujarat
