September 20, 2025
Ahmedabad: A complaint has been filed against four police personnel for allegedly extorting money from a Mumbai-based trader, Vajeram Gurjar, and his brother Dinesh Gurjar.
According to the complaint filed at Nikol Police Station, on the evening of August 17, 2025, between approximately 4:00 PM and 9:00 PM, four men dressed as police officers stopped Vajeram’s Hyundai Creta (registration number MH-47-AU-3925) near Dastan Circle on Sardar Patel Ring Road, Ahmedabad. Two of the men were reportedly wearing white shirts and blue pants, one was in a khaki uniform, and the fourth was in plain clothes.
The officers allegedly pulled Vajeram and his brother out of the car and took them to a nearby cabin. Inside, they checked Vajeram’s mobile phone and claimed it contained a cricket betting ID, accusing him of involvement in illegal cricket betting. They threatened that a case would be filed against him and warned, “You will be jailed” unless they were paid Rs 20 lakh.
Fearing for their safety, Vajeram handed over Rs 1 lakh in cash. The officers then demanded an additional amount, for which they obtained a UPI code from an unknown person. Under duress, Vajeram and his brother transferred Rs 4.88 lakh via online net banking and Google Pay, bringing the total extorted amount to Rs 5.88 lakh. After receiving the money, the officers allegedly released them.
Vajeram Gurjar, aged 45, son of Dhannaji Chennaji, a resident of Flat No. A/403, Ramdev Enclave, Mira-Bhayandar Road, Mumbai, is a businessman trading in precious stones through his shop, C.M. Gems, located in Sagar Shopping Complex, Andheri, Mumbai. He lodged the complaint after returning from his business commitments.
Vajeram stated, “When we were stopped near Dastan Circle, the officers checked the car and our papers but found nothing suspicious. They then claimed my phone had a cricket betting ID and threatened me with jail. Out of fear, I paid Rs 1 lakh in cash and Rs 4.88 lakh online.”
The Nikol Police have registered a case against the four officers and initiated an investigation into the matter. DeshGujarat
