State Government Spokesperson Rushikesh Patel said the government has approved the creation of these 17 new talukas with a citizen-centric approach. Administrative decentralization will make district- and taluka-level offices more accessible to people, enhancing comprehensive services in social, economic, health, and educational sectors. Moreover, residents of remote villages will save time, effort, and money when visiting taluka headquarters.

The spokesperson further said that the Cabinet has approved the formation of the new Vav-Tharad district, including six talukas of the current Banaskantha district—Vav, Tharad, Suigam, Bhabhar, Diyodar, and Lakhani—linking Tharad as the district headquarters.

Providing details about the creation of new talukas, Rushikesh Patel said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as the then Chief Minister of Gujarat, had envisioned strengthening the taluka unit for development and governance through the ATVT (“Our Taluka, Vibrant Taluka”) initiative. After the creation of 23 new talukas in 2013, this is the first time the government under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has approved the largest number—17 new talukas.

The Chief Minister had also announced the Gramotthan scheme on the last Independence Day. With the new taluka headquarters, these areas will also benefit from urban-style development.

He added that the formation of new districts and talukas aligns with the vision of “Developed India @2047” and aims to make Gujarat developed by 2047. With the creation of these 17 new talukas, the total number of developed talukas will increase by 10, enabling them to receive the grants allocated to developed talukas.

Not only will the new districts and talukas have a modern administrative structure, but they will also see an increase in grants for various development projects.

The official notification regarding the creation of the new talukas will be published shortly. DeshGujarat
