Surat Outer Ring Road phase-2 work set to commence soon; ₹216 crore tenders issued

Surat: After seven years since its announcement, the ambitious Surat Outer Ring Road project is finally set to enter Phase-2. Designed to ease the city’s growing traffic problems, the project aims to ensure smooth intra-city travel and seamless connectivity with national highways.

The first phase of the project faced repeated delays due to financial and administrative challenges, as well as issues with contractors. After being stalled for years, the project has now overcome these obstacles and resumed steady progress. Initiated in 2019, the Outer Ring Road project has now reached Phase-2, with administrative processes underway for constructing flyovers and roads. Tenders worth ₹216 crore have been issued for work on the Sachin-Kadodara stretch, and the project is expected to be completed 30 months after work orders are issued.

The Outer Ring Road spans 66.77 km and has been divided into two phases for administrative convenience and geographical considerations. Phase-2 covers a 10.45 km stretch, while Phase-1 work remains incomplete due to earlier contractor issues and a railway block at Niyol. With tenders for Phase-2 issued, construction is expected to begin shortly.

Sachin-Kadodara Flyover to Be Built in Phase-2

Phase-2 includes the greenfield stretch from Sachin-Palsana Road Junction to Surat-Kadodara Road Junction. This phase will see the construction of a six-lane, 730-meter flyover at an estimated cost of ₹51.62 crore, featuring an 11.5-meter-wide carriageway on both sides. Additionally, a six-lane flexible pavement road will be built from Surat-Palsana Road (NH-53) to Surat-Kadodara Road, covering 9.16 km at an estimated cost of ₹165.96 crore, including structures for canals and waterbodies.

Once Phase-2 is completed, the project will directly benefit several areas around Surat, including Vedchha, Chedchha, Niyol, Devdh, Dindoli, Kharvasa, Ekalera, Saniya Kand, Pardi Kand, Bhanodra, and Sachin. DeshGujarat
