Ahmedabad: The recently inaugurated Veer Savarkar Sports Complex in Narangpura, Ahmedabad, is now ready to host another international-level sports event.

From 28th September, the complex will witness the commencement of the 11th Asian Aquatics Championship. Organized under the aegis of Asia Aquatics, the championship is being conducted by the Swimming Federation of India with support from the Sports Authority of Gujarat. The premier continental event will feature competitions in swimming, diving, artistic swimming, and water polo.

Notably, this championship, which will run until 11th October, is being held in India for the first time. Ahmedabad, which is aiming to host future Olympic events, will welcome over 900 athletes from 29 countries.

The championship provides Indian athletes the advantage of competing on home ground while gaining experience in high-level international competition. Additionally, this event serves as a qualifying tournament for the 2026 Asian Games. For Gujarat, hosting this championship is a significant achievement, placing Ahmedabad at the forefront of India’s bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games and the 2036 Olympic Games.

This international-level aquatic event will help popularize aquatic sports in India, nurture emerging talent, and establish Ahmedabad as a global sports destination. The championship will play a key role in realizing India’s vision of hosting the 2036 Olympics, while also strengthening the state’s organizational capabilities, infrastructure readiness, and ability to conduct world-class events.
