Surat’s Growing National Presence

Notably, five industrialists from Surat have entered India’s top 500 list, underlining the city’s growing contribution to the national economy, especially in the solar, chemical, petrochemical, diamond, jewellery, and textile sectors.

Industry experts point out that if the combined wealth of different family members’ enterprises—such as SRK Exports, Kiran Gems, Colortex, and Hari Krishna Exports—is consolidated, Surat’s rankings could shift further upward, with several companies making it to India’s top 150.

Surat, long known as the diamond hub of India, is increasingly emerging as a diversified powerhouse with strong representation in renewable energy, chemicals, and financial services, alongside its traditional strengths in gems, jewellery, and textiles.
