ACB Gujarat Catches Surat Sub-Registrar Accepting ₹2.5 Lakh Bribe for Approval to Farmland Purchase

Surat, October 4: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Gujarat on Friday successfully trapped a Sub-Registrar of Surat-8, Adajan, while accepting a bribe of ₹2.5 lakh from a complainant in his office.

The accused has been identified as Maheshkumar Ranjitsinh Parmar, a Class-3 Sub-Registrar posted at the Sub-Registrar’s Office, Surat-8 (Adajan).

According to the ACB, the complainant’s client had purchased agricultural land and had completed all necessary formalities, including payment of required government fees. The registration of the document had also been completed at the Sub-Registrar’s Office. However, in order to “process the document without any objections,” the accused allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹3 lakh from the complainant.

Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB and lodged a formal complaint. Acting on the complaint, ACB officials laid a trap on October 4, 2025, at the Sub-Registrar’s Office in Adajan. During the operation, Parmar accepted ₹2.5 lakh as part of the bribe and was caught red-handed by the ACB team.

The operation was led by Mr. R.K. Solanki, Police Inspector, Surat Rural ACB, with the support of his team. The trap was carried out under the supervision of Mr. R.R. Chowdhary, Assistant Director, ACB Surat Unit.

The ACB has filed a case against the accused under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, and further investigation is underway to uncover any possible involvement of others in the bribery case.
