Chhotu Vasava’s Bharatiya Tribal Party gets show-cause notice from ECI
October 07, 2025
Bharuch: The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Gujarat has issued a show-cause notice to the Bharatiya Tribal Party (BTP), founded by former MLA Chhotubhai Vasava of Jhagdiya in Bharuch district, seeking an explanation for its failure to submit financial accounts to the Election Commission of India (ECI) on time.
BTP has reportedly failed to submit its audit accounts for the last three financial years — 2021-22, 2022-23, and 2023-24 — within the prescribed deadlines of November 30, 2022; December 31, 2023; and December 15, 2024, respectively. Additionally, the party participated in elections but did not submit expenditure accounts within the required timelines — 75 days after Assembly elections and 90 days after Lok Sabha elections.
The notice states that BTP representatives must appear in person before the District Collector on October 14, 2025, at 12:00 noon, along with all relevant documents, to provide an explanation. A press release from the District Collector warned that if no response or explanation is submitted, it will be deemed that the party has nothing to say on the matter, and the Election Commission of India may take appropriate action, which will be binding on the Bharatiya Tribal Party.
