Surat: The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has announced plans to develop a new modern sports zone under the Sachin Railway Overbridge in the Kanakpur area, aimed at providing enhanced recreational and fitness options for the city’s youth and sports enthusiasts.

This comes after the much-talked-about modern indoor sports facility under the Parle Point bridge. The new project is estimated to cost ₹2.40 crore and will be spread over 2,829 square meters. The facility will feature multiple sports courts, a cafeteria, a box cricket arena, and rest and recreation areas. A pay-and-park facility will also be included to ensure convenience for visitors.

The proposal was approved by SMC Standing Committee Chairman Rajan Patel at a recent meeting. Officials said the project is part of the Smart City Mission, which seeks to utilize underbridges and vacant urban spaces as recreation and fitness zones, thereby enhancing lifestyle and sports infrastructure in the city.

Once completed by the end of 2026, the sports zone will serve as a new hub for activities including boxing and cricket, benefiting youth from Sachin, Kanakpur, and surrounding areas. DeshGujarat
