Surat to see revamp of another canal corridor for Rs. 9 crore

Surat: The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) is preparing to revamp a nearly three-kilometer-long canal corridor in the Puna area. Stretching from Vanmali Junction to Poojan Plaza, the project aims to beautify the area with modern public amenities, including linear gardens, walkways, and selfie points. The proposed project is estimated to cost ₹9 crore.

Following the positive public response to similar developments in the Rander and Athwa zones, where residents have appreciated well-maintained walkways, gardens, and selfie points, the SMC has now proposed beautifying the Puna canal corridor. If approved, the project will be implemented in the coming months, offering residents new spaces for recreation and leisure.

The canal corridor in Puna, approximately three kilometers long and 60 meters wide along the BRTS route, has remained largely vacant until now. Under the proposed plan, linear gardens will add greenery, walkways will provide spaces for morning and evening strolls, and selfie points with lighting will make the area a popular attraction.

Key benefits of the project include:

  • Providing residents with a safe and scenic place for walking and exercising.

  • Increasing greenery and improving the local environment through linear gardens.

  • Enhancing the visual appeal of the area with selfie points and attractive lighting.

  • Rejuvenating the canal in line with the development of the BRTS corridor.

  • Improving lifestyle opportunities for residents of Puna , Parvat Patiya and surrounding areas.

The SMC has already submitted the ₹9 crore proposal to the Public Works Committee, and the tender process has been completed. Work is expected to begin soon after final approval from the authorities. DeshGujarat

That’s good initiative. But please look in to matter, where in metro project work , where cement blocks are made. Work goes on 24hours. Surrounding societies are facing problem of cement particles getting in houses, noice, pickup trucks are coming around 5.30 making noises. This is unbearable. It’s like licence is given to run factory in residential area. My one question. Person who gave permission for this, will he stay near such mess ?
