Labh Pancham of Samvat 2082 this year on Oct 26; Shubh Muhurats for reopening businesses after Diwali break

Gandhinagar: This year, Labh Pancham will be observed on Sunday, 26th October. Labh Pancham falls on the fifth day of the Kartak month (Kartak Sud Pancham) according to the Hindu Gujarati Vikram Samvat calendar, currently year 2082. In Gujarat, this day marks the reopening of shops and businesses that remained closed during the Diwali festivities, signifying the official conclusion of the festival. Markets and stores resume operations during the auspicious shubh muhurats.

For 2025, the shubh muhurats for reopening businesses on Labh Pancham are 8:10 am to 12:20 pm and 1:50 pm to 3:10 pm.

It is believed that beginning new trade or performing rituals on Labh Pancham brings prosperity and success in business. Merchants perform pooja of their account books and Lord Ganesha using kanku. Many paint a swastika and write Shubh and Labh on the thresholds of their homes or workplaces. Account books are also marked with Shri Sava to commemorate the new year. The day is alternatively called Shri Panchami, associated with worship of Goddess Lakshmi, and chanting of the Shri Sukta is common. Merchants also perform account book pujan and kanta pujan as part of the traditions.

In Jainism, Labh Pancham is additionally observed as Gyan Panchami, dedicated to worshipping Goddess Sarasvati. The day is celebrated as a festival of knowledge, learning, and generosity. Exhibitions of gyan upkaran (tools for writing and knowledge dissemination) are organized in Jain Pathshalas and Upashrayas across Gujarat. Rituals such as pratikraman, dev vandan, Sarasvati prayers, and vyakhyan are performed in Upashrays throughout the city. DeshGujarat
