Sharp dip in day temperatures across Gujarat as rain and cloud cover persist
October 29, 2025
Ahmedabad: Gujarat witnessed a sharp fall in day temperatures on Tuesday, with most cities recording maximum temperatures 5°C to 10°C below normal, as intermittent rain and thick cloud cover continued across several parts of the state.
According to data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Ahmedabad recorded a maximum temperature of 26.3°C, nearly 8.6°C below normal, while Gandhinagar and Rajkot also remained unusually cool at 26.5°C and 25°C, respectively. Rajkot saw the steepest drop, with the day temperature 10.7°C below normal.
Other major centres such as Bhuj (25.4°C, -10.4°C), Kandla (25°C, -9.9°C), Deesa (27.2°C, -8.5°C), and Amreli (27.3°C, -7.9°C) also reported significant dips, making Tuesday one of the coldest October days in recent years for several districts.
In coastal areas, Dwarka (26.2°C), Porbandar (27.7°C), and Veraval (27.8°C) too experienced much cooler-than-usual conditions, with light to moderate rainfall reported in parts of Saurashtra and Kutch. Veraval recorded 22 mm of rain, while Deesa received 58 mm and Diu 41 mm.
Meanwhile, minimum temperatures remained close to normal across the state, hovering between 20°C and 24°C. Humidity levels stayed high, exceeding 85% in most cities due to persistent moisture in the atmosphere.
The IMD attributed the temperature drop to the ongoing depression over the Arabian Sea, which has brought widespread rain and overcast skies across Gujarat. The system currently lies about 480 km southwest of Veraval and is expected to move northeastward over the next 36 hours. It is likely to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall in Amreli and Bhavnagar, and heavy showers in Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, Junagadh, Gir Somnath, and Botad districts.
