Vadodara: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) is set to begin work soon on developing a new football ground, skating rink, and indoor sports complex with international-level facilities at Chhotubhai Purani Stadium in the city’s Akota area. The ₹40-crore project aims to provide Vadodara’s sportspersons with a state-of-the-art platform for training and competition.
Spread across a total area of 35,935 square metres, the complex will feature a 7,140 sq m football ground with a large spectator gallery. Additionally, an expansive indoor sports building will house six modern badminton courts with seating arrangements for spectators.
The project also includes the construction of a 200-metre-long skating rink spread over 3,870 sq m. Adequate parking facilities will be developed, including a multi-storey parking lot for four-wheelers and a separate area for two-wheelers and additional vehicles.
The complex will also feature attractive landscaping, separate washrooms for men and women, changing rooms for players, office and storage spaces, and a dedicated area for media coverage within the indoor sports building.
According to the Municipal Commissioner, the upcoming multi-purpose sports complex will provide young athletes in Vadodara the opportunity to train for football, badminton, and skating at national and international levels. He added that the ₹40-crore project will mark a major step forward in strengthening the city’s sports ecosystem. DeshGujarat
