Ahmedabad: Chandkheda Police have booked a Rajkot-based doctor for allegedly creating and circulating a misleading YouTube video spreading false claims about Amul milk.
The complaint was filed by an Assistant Manager at Amul FED Dairy under the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd (GCMMF). The complainant stated that he came across Dr. Hitesh Jani’s video titled “Do you know what kind of milk reaches your home?” on November 3, which contained several false and misleading allegations targeting Amul’s milk processing and quality standards.
The video, which went viral on YouTube and Facebook, allegedly claimed that Amul milk contained over 22 types of chemicals, banned pesticides such as DDT, and other harmful preservatives. It also accused the company of underfilling milk pouches and deceiving consumers for profit. The complainant said that such baseless allegations damage the reputation of Amul and the larger Indian cooperative movement.
According to the FIR, “In the YouTube video, at the 29-minute and 54-second mark, Dr. Hitesh Jani specifically targets Amul milk and makes false and misleading claims, including: 1. Twenty-two types of chemicals are added to milk. 2. Banned pesticides like DDT are mixed into milk. 3. Sodium benzoate and other emulsifiers are regularly added before sale. 4. Milk is seven days old. 5. Although pouches are labeled as 500 ml, only 480–490 ml is actually filled. 6. Amul cheats customers and makes profits dishonestly. 7. Even products bearing ISI/FSSAI marks are unsafe, and authorities take no action.”
The accused also claimed that he must become a legislator to change the law and urges viewers to spread the video.
The FIR further states that through these misleading statements, Dr. Hitesh Jani has damaged the reputation and goodwill of GCMMF and its Amul brand via social media.
The complaint also alleges that Dr. Jani, being a medical professional, knowingly made false claims that could create fear and mistrust among consumers, thereby harming the credibility of GCMMF — a leading cooperative institution. The complainant has requested a legal investigation against the accused for tarnishing Amul’s image and spreading misinformation on social media.
Based on the complaint, the police have booked Dr. Jani under Sections 356(1) and 353(1)(b) of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and have begun an investigation into the matter. DeshGujarat
