November 08, 2025
Surat: The Ro-Ro ferry operating on the Ghogha–Hazira route once again became a topic of discussion after it got stuck at sea, about five kilometers from Surat, leaving passengers stranded and anxious.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Thursday when the ferry, en route from Ghogha to Hazira, suddenly came to a halt mid-sea due to a technical fault. Initially, passengers were confused, but as the vessel remained stationary for a prolonged period, they began questioning the crew. The lack of clear communication from the staff reportedly led to frustration and panic among passengers, some of whom expressed anger on board.
After nearly three and a half hours, engineers on board managed to repair the engine, and the ferry resumed its journey safely to Hazira, much to the relief of passengers.
Meanwhile, several passengers who had booked flight tickets were forced to cancel their plans as they could not reach their destination on time. Due to the growing anger among passengers, ferry staff reportedly hid near the vehicles and boats on board, while the pilot locked himself inside the cabin.
The ferry operator later clarified that the incident had actually occurred about three days earlier and assured that all necessary precautions were taken to ensure passenger safety during the breakdown. DeshGujarat
