9.5-foot crocodile falls into 30-foot pit at bullet train site in Vadodara; rescue video goes viral

Vadodara: A dramatic rescue operation unfolded in Maretha village of Vadodara after a 9.5-foot-long crocodile accidentally fell into a 30-foot-deep pit dug for the ongoing Mumbai–Ahmedabad bullet train project near the Vishwamitri river.

The Vishwamitri river, known for its large crocodile population, often sees these reptiles straying into nearby areas. During pillar construction work for the bullet train project, workers were startled to find the massive crocodile trapped inside the deep pit.

Upon receiving the information, a team from the forest department rushed to the site and launched a rescue operation. Given the depth of the pit and the size of the crocodile, a crane was deployed to lift the reptile. Eyewitnesses described the unusual sight as the crocodile appeared to “travel through the air” while being carefully hoisted out.

After nearly two hours of effort, the forest team successfully rescued the crocodile and later released it safely back into the Vishwamitri river. Officials noted that since the work site lies close to the river and has muddy terrain, crocodiles often wander into the area during construction activity. DeshGujarat
